Cavs Waive Kapono, resign Manny for the Remainder of 2012

Good ending to all the trouble Manny had to start the year.  Kapono is a good dude and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him back in Miami

“Jason Kapono’s second tour of duty with the Cavaliers ended before it began.

Kapono, acquired Thursday in the trade with the Los Angeles Lakers will be waived, a league source said. The club plans to sign shooting guard Manny Harris for the remainder of the season.

Coach Byron Scott has hinted the past two days the team might bring back Harris, who played sparingly during two 10-day contracts recently.

The Cavaliers signed point guard Donald Sloan from the D-League Erie Bayhawks earlier on Friday.

The club picked up Kapono as part of the deal that sent Ramon Sessions and Christian Eyenga to the Lakers for Luke Walton, a lottery-protected, first-round pick and the right to swap first-round draft picks in 2013. Kapono, who played one season (2003-04) with the Cavaliers, will become an unrestricted free agent.

The team likely will pay him approximately $400,000 that is left on his one-year deal. The Cavaliers roster is back to a full 15 players. They host Atlanta on Sunday at The Q. “

Kyrie MVP

Kyrie played absolutely lights out on Friday during the rookie-sophomore Rising Stars Game.

Irving was a perfect 8 for 8 from beyond the arc and finished with 34 points, helping Team Chuck beat Team Shaq 146-133 in the Rising Stars Challenge on Friday.

Irving said he couldn’t remember being so hot from the field.

“No, it’s never occurred in my career,” he said. “You know, it’s kind of unfortunate that it comes in the All-Star game. These stats don’t carry over into the season. But at the end of the day, it was still fun to get out there with those talented guys. So it was a great experience.”

Tristan Thompson also played fantastic and scored 20 points to lead Team Shaq.

Winning the Rookie/Sophomore (0r just the rookie game) is become a bit of a tradition for the Cavs.  Boobie and Big Z have also won the award.

Kyrie also participated in the skills challenge and struggled a bit, coming in 6th.
