The 2023-24 Nike NBA City Edition uniform, inspired by Clevleand’s rich history of performing arts from Playhouse Square, the largest Performing Arts Center in the United States outside of New York, to Severance Hall, home to the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra.

The uniform shines a spotlight on both iconic cultural institutions in Cleveland and celebrates these pillars in the Northeast Ohio community. From the ornate trim echoing the baroque ceilings of the theaters to the marquee-inspired numbers and word mark, the uniforms take the team to the bright lights of the stage.

The Inspiration

Playhouse Square, located in downtown Cleveland, is the “world’s largest theater restoration project,” and Northeast Ohio’s home for touring Broadway shows, concerts, comedy, dance and children’s programming. Playhouse Square draws more than 1 million people annually to its 12 venues. Playhouse Square is where memories are made, dreams are encouraged and excitement never stops.

The bold, elegant, and distinctive 2023-24 City Edition uniform draws inspiration from the majestic interiors of the theaters at Cleveland’s Playhouse Square. Adorned with a gold colorway reminiscent of the cornice decorating the theater ceilings, the signature tagline “The LAND” pops while being displayed prominently on the front of the uniform. Evocative of the heavily styled theater playbills and visuals, the chest logo blends Playhouse Square theatrics with the fierceness of Cavs basketball. Framing “The Land” wordmark, the famous Nike swoosh logo is positioned on the upper right chest with the Cleveland-Cliffs logo on the upper left.

The back of the jersey draws inspiration from the iconic theater marquees and modernizes this for the uniform. The player number blends the ornate detailing inside the Playhouse Square theaters with stylized flourishes.

In both applications, the design is reminiscent of the dramatic and dazzling marquees that welcome patrons to the theater.

Following the design elements of the core jerseys, the shorts feature the iconic Cavs “C” on the right side, outlined in lights to resemble the classic theater marquee. The design on the left side of the shorts is a nod to a theater curtain opening for the start of the show. Tying the elements together, the waistband and jock tag display graphics that blend the identity of Playhouse Square with the dynamic Cavaliers look and feel.

A special City Edition Court has been designed to accompany the team’s uniform during designated City Edition nights throughout the season.

Decorated in bespoke designs on the hardwood floor, surrounding each basket, the court seamlessly blends elements from both basketball and the theater. “The Land” logo is displayed in center court, complementing the design on the uniform’s chest.

The City Edition home court resembles that of a curtain opening, illuminated with marquee lights, bringing fans a sense of insight and anticipation as the Cavs play on. “Cavs” is featured on both the right and left baseline. “LET EM KNOW” is featured at the west base line and the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse logo is displayed on either side of half court.
